SPRING IS HERE!
An exciting time to be on the coast as the whales migrate past. It is very rewarding to see good attendance in the theatre. This month sees the start of the excellent Spring programme curated by Lindy Hume and Andrew Gray (Crimson Rosella Creative Adventures). We are all hoping this will become an annual event.
HEADLAND THEATRE
SPRING PROGRAM START
This spring, Tathra offers the perfect combination of whale watching and world-class live performance.
Perched high on Tathra Headland, Headland Theatre at Tathra Hotel provides spectacular ocean views and an intimate setting for an outstanding September–November program of theatre, music, film and storytelling.
New events continue to be added but confirmed for this month we have:
September 1: Spring Program Launch - Free Entry. Come and get a free drink and preview of upcoming events. Register now for this free event.
September 2: "One Life" - arthouse film starring Anthony Hopkins
September 5: "Last Concert Band Standing" - two shows by excellent local brass bands
September 9: "Emilia Perez" arthouse film nominated for multiple Academy Awards
September 11: "Barstool Conversation - Singing the Blackbird"
September 12: "The Birthday Trip" - Australian indie film with good reviews
September 16: "Wilding" - an extra screening due to popular demand
September 19: "Coexistence" - percussion concert presented in conjunction with Musica Viva
September 25, 26: "POV - re:group" - an experimental, live-cinema theatre production created by Australia's re:group performance collective
October 1: "Duet For One" - live multimedia performance featuring celebrated pianist Sonya Lifschitz. A finalist in the Australian Music Awards and sold out at the Canberra Festival earlier this year.

One Life

Wednesday 2 September, 4pm
One Life is the extraordinary true story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who helped rescue 669 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in the months before World War II.
Starring Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn and Helena Bonham Carter.

Saphire Coast Concert Band and Bega District Band
Saturday 5 September, 3pm & 6:30pm
Two community music organisations join forces to present a program sparkling with musical variety and bursting with brassy goodness!
The 3pm show features performances from the Sapphire Coast Anglican College (SCAC) Concert Band, and the 6:30pm show features performances from the Bega All-Ages Development Band ... come and hear the real thing!

Wednesday 9 Septermber, 4pm
Set in Mexico and starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, it follows a powerful cartel leader who sets out to leave his old life behind and become the woman he has always dreamed of being.
A wildly original mix of crime drama, musical and operatic spectacle, Emilia Pérez is provocative, emotional and unforgettable.
Barstool Conversation - Singing the Blackbird

Barstool Conversation with the creative team behind Singing the Blackbird, a new Australian play currently in development. Meet Damien Ryan (Director) and Kate Flaherty (Writer).
The team will be undertaking a creative development of the work in Tathra at Headland Theatre, and this Barstool Conversation is a chance to meet the artists, hear about the work as it develops and get a glimpse inside the creative process.

The Birthday Trip is an unflinchingly funny drama following three millennial couples whose relationships are thrown into disarray when they descend on a luxury Southern Highlands farmstay for a birthday weekend they’ll never forget.

Wilding, based on Isabella Tree's bestselling book, follows a young couple who transform their struggling 400-year-old estate by embracing nature instead of traditional farming. By removing fences and allowing wildlife to reclaim the land, they launch one of Europe's most influential rewilding projects.

Experience re:group's playful, urgent and live version of a documentary!
Enter the mind’s eye of Bub, an 11-year-old girl who’s obsessed with documentary filmmaking. In the aftermath of a family breakdown, she turns to dramatised re-enactments to try to figure out what happened.
In each performance of this latest docudrama experiment from re:group performance collective, two new, unrehearsed adult actors join a young performer onstage.

A showcase of contemporary percussion performance with sound artists Alexander Meagher and Jesse Vivante.
Meagher’s A Brilliant Seagull and Vivante’s Omni-Omni were developed as part of Speak Percussion's Bespoke Emerging Artist program 2023-2024.
Co-presented by Crimson Rosella Creative Adventures.
Duet for One
music / multi-media performance
Thursday 1 October, 7:30pm
a collaboration between virtuoso pianist Sonya Lifschitz, composer/ media artist Damian Barbeler and pioneering interactive media artist Tim Gruchy.
Featuring the time-and-space-bending device of Sonya performing in duet with herself on location in the film, this cinematic concert seamlessly blends live music performance, film, projections, ritual theatre, sound sculpture and sound design.

New Menu Coming Soon
The menu will get a revamp for Spring with a start date of September 3. Bookings are recommended especially for Father's Day.
Themes for the weekly specials board this month:

Father's Day (September 6): Grilled Meat platter
The pizza menu has been revamped; pizza is now available on Sundays from lunchtime.
BREWERY
The brewery team have been getting ready for Summer and preparing for the next canning run in October.
The Apricot Wheat beer is now on tap and proving to be popular. It will soon be joined by the Lighthouse Hazy Pale which will replace the XPA.
LIVE MUSIC & EVENTS

The popular SESSION will be on Friday September 4 from 6pm (fast session) and September 18 (slow session). The guitar sing-along session will be on Thursday September 10 from 5:30pm.
There is now a piano in the bar and is not there just for hired musicians - if anyone feels like playing ask the bar staff for a key.
POETS BREAKFAST - OPEN MIC
September 27: 9am - 11am Free entry
