Tathra Hotel Monthly News Letter - october 2025
WELCOME TO OCTOBER!
The weather is warming and the year is flying by. October sees school holidays followed by the Headland Writers Festival. We have closed in Perisher after a good amount of snow from start to finish.
THEATRE
Theatre inside
The builders are close to finishing! Landscaping is underway and the lights, curtains and sound will soon be going in. It looks terrific inside and we think the accoustics will be excellent. Then we have to get all the necessary sign offs prior to occupation - not helped by council recently advising they were not able to do it! We were hoping to be ready for the Writers Festival but are not going to make it.
The production of "Monument" from Melbourne that was scheduled for mid October will now be staged in Merimbula. As soon as the theatre is complete we will programme some events to "try the space out".
KITCHEN
Oktoberfest | Street Food | New Menu
Tibin and his team have recently launched a new menu for summer. Special events this month:
October 1 - 8: Oktoberfest with matching beers
October 22: Around the World: Street Food
And every Wednesday SCONES will be available all day for just $4. PIZZA is available on Sundays from 12 - 5pm. The popular Sunday ROAST will continue.
LIVE MUSIC & EVENTS
After the long weekend music will revert to summer time: 4-7pm. This month we have:
October 4 and 5: Wrack 'n Ruin
October 12: The Sugar Ants
October 18 and 19: Pepper and Davies
October 26: Jackson State
The sessions will be on again this month - Friday October 3 (fast session) and October 24 (slow session). The guitar sing a long will be on Thursday October 9.
Headland Writers Festival (17-19 Oct 2025) is a celebration of storytelling, literature, and ideas, held on the breathtaking headland at Tathra. The festival brings together writers, poets, and thinkers to spark conversations, challenge perspectives, and inspire audiences.
Authors announced: Sofie Laguna, Kim Mahood, Jess Hill, Mark McKenna, Linda Jaivin, Tyson Yunkaporta, Emily Maguire, Omar Musa, Hugh White, Sonia Orchard, Quentin Sprague, Winnie Dunn, Jade Timms, Ellen Mundy, David Dixon, Megan Kelleher, Jess Hamilton.
Day passes and Weekend passes are sold out but individual session tickets and pre-order lunch packs are available online. There are also some free sessions at the hotel. Check the programme on the website.
BREWERY
New Beer Coming Soon
After keeping the Sundeck supplied all winter Simon has a new beer released soon:
Balaena Blonde Abbey Ale 6.5%:
Brewed in a traditional Abbey method this ale pours bright with Pils malt sweetness initially, giving way to a dry and complex palette. Expect some smooth, warm alcohol notes in the aftertaste accompanied by spicy, earthy hops rounded out by sweet honey courtesy of traditional light candi syrup utilized in the brewing process.
Following their recent canning run our beers are now also available in a number of bottleshops and restaurants in the shire.
