Tathra Hotel Monthly News Letter - june 2026
WINTER IS HERE!
Winter is with us and the shortest day of the year only a few weeks away. This will be our first winter away from Perisher in many years. It has been wonderful seeing a positive response to the theatre with a number of shows selling out.
Note that Essential Energy will be shutting the power off during the day on Wednesday June 3 and 17. We will be closed for breakfast and lunch services. Unfortunately they have refused to consider doing the work at night or early morning to minimise the impact on the hotel and staff.
HEADLAND THEATRE
June at Headland Theatre is shaping up as a rich mix of live performance, film, music and conversation. Step inside the creative process with FLING Physical Theatre’s free Building Momentum Open Studio showings and experience the exhilarating live performance by the acclaimed Partridge String Quartet. Screening of a bold new Australian film Alphabet Lane will be presented by Far South Film, as well as our second Arthouse screening The Taste of Things.
The month also includes two events in partnership with the Fungi Feastival - a fascinating documentary Nature’s Bounty – Mushroom Hunters of the Zambian Miombo and a gripping conversation with investigative journalist Duncan McNab discussing the Erin Patterson mushroom murder trial.
The month finishes with a special Headland Writers Festival launch event featuring acclaimed author Inga Simpson in conversation with Gabbie Stroud, with announcements on key authors for the October festival and early-bird tickets available.
From intimate chamber music to thought-provoking storytelling, June offers audiences a chance to connect with artists, ideas and unforgettable experiences right here in Tathra.
Upcoming shows:
June 3 & 10 - Building Momentum - FLING Physical Theatre Open Studio Wednesdays. Free. Regiser online.
June 11 - The Partridge String Quartet - our first classical concert presented in conjunction with Musica Viva. Should be a real treat given the exceptional accoustics.
June 13 - Planet Fungi Film Screening with Q&A and book launch
June 14 - Alphabet Lane - Film screening & Talk. Presented by Far South Film.
June 18 - Arthouse film “The Taste of Things” - one of the best food films you will ever see, starring Juliette Binoche.

KITCHEN
Fungi Specials & Croatian Cuisine
Tibin and his wife have recently welcomed their second child into the family. Tibin will be off for a few weeks and Harry will be managing the kitchen in his absence.
In previous years we have run some "Where in the World" days with different cuisine. This year we will be having the special dishes on for a week and scheduling with National Days and other special events. This month:
June 11 - 24: The region wide Fungi Feastival is on so we will have some mushroom themed dishes. Perhaps Beef Wellington might make an appearance to coincide with Duncan McNab's presentation on the mushroom murders?
June 25 - July 1: Croatia Theme
In the quieter times pizza will only be available on Sundays. Our popular Sunday roast will continue.
The hotel is open every day from 8am for breakfast or just a coffee.
BREWERY
Simon and his helpers are preparing for another canning run and will be adding two new cans to the range with Simon's unique tasting notes:
"Ahabs Apricot Wheat Beer"
Brewed for smooth sailing and easy drinking, this hazy apricot wheat beer breaches with fresh stone fruit aroma, soft wheat character with a slightly tart and refreshingly citrus finish. This ale rides the tides between fruity sweetness and crisp ocean spray freshness. It won't get your leg back, but it'll do in the meantime.
"Black Whale Stout"
From the deepest waters comes the Black Whale. Brewed with soft oats, chocolate malts and roast barley it offers up a balanced yet toasty ale, with a rich tanned head and velvety mouthfeel. Expect earthy notes of cacao and vanilla rounded out with silky espresso creme.
Dark waters have never before been so tempting.
