While ' Willie and the Correspondents ' has been around for several decades with two albums as West Texas Crude, the band has developed a more engaging format drawing on members’ multiple experiences as well as their musical talent. A session of laughter, sorrow, joy, wistfulness and insight with ‘intelligent, original ballads delivering compelling commentaries on life, love, death and politics’ (Canberra Times) and stories that draw upon band members lives including local Tathra resident Matthew Herbert, Merimbula local Hugh Watson, Philip Williams as Chief Foreign Correspondent for the ABC and Greg Turnbull as former press secretary to Paul Keating and Kim Beazley, and bass player and former session musician Peter MacDonald.
