Here is a chance to see one-man play in two acts by Alex Nicol at the Tathra Hotel.

Alex Nicol was the ABC's first rural radio presenter. He started at the ABC in 1967, and was presenter of the 'All Ways on Sunday' program. He wrote many books. He is also a playwright, and his plays have been produced in London, New York, Melbourne and Sydney, with credits including an award at the Manchester International Writing Competition, the Wal Cherry Award, and The London International Playwriting Award.

None of these stories were kept. They live on in memory. SUNDAY PEOPLE is that memory. Written and perfomed by Alex Nicol in a masterful piece of storytelling that's a tribute to those lost voices.

They're the voices of ALL WAYS ON SUNDAY. To some it was oral history. To ALEX NICOL, just great stories about people who owned them.

The program was born an orphan in 1969. The ABC's Sunday audience was miniscule and its presenter a raw novice. A year later it was a phenomenon. Its audience huge and growing. The three and a half hours of national radio programing had found the last of the World War One soldier settlers, rough riders, prospectors, gold smugglers, pioneers. Real people from every corner of Australia and it caught their stories just in time.

In a first for the ABC, the program travelled. In Alice Springs, where the ABC had no facilities, the local commercial station opened its doors to welcome Alex. The format was always the same. Local people with a chance to tell their own extraordinary stories to people all over Australia.

On the back of SUNDAY PEOPLE, Allen & Unwin have published Alex's first collection of stories OLD DAYS, OLD WAYS.
